    Customer Reviews:
    a MAJOR disappointment!
I’m normally a big fan of Melissa and Doug products, but I can’t believe I spent a single dollar on this toy. This is an assemble-it-yourself item, which is fine except…many of the holes did NOT match up (some were up to a HALF INCH off and looked as if a 3-year-old had drilled them). When I say drill, I mean that loosely, because some of the holes weren’t even drilled all the way through. The showpiece of this toy is the fire truck ladder, but the ladder did NOT fit into the ladder holder…because the holes for the holder were drilled on the WRONG side of the truck! The only way to fix all the hole problems would be to take a power drill to it, but the wood is extremely soft, so you may end up shattering it. This is the worst quality control I’ve seen in a looooong time.

    hard to assemble
I purchased this for my nephew and my father assembled it. He complained that the toy was difficult to put together due to screws not fitting well and predrilled holes not accurately cut. My nephew loves it and my sister likes the looks of it. He loves the moving parts! I would advise that you assemble it for the child before giving so they don’t have to wait!

    Great confidence building toy.
I thought it was time for my 4 year old to have something of his own to put together. He always wanted to help me with my tools doing things. This looked like the perfect thing and it turned out well. The parts are fairly solid and he was able to pick out the parts that go together according to (the not so clear) directions with a little help. He with his trusted screwdriver tightended all the screws and we assembled the product. While he did bore in the middle of the project we were able to continue and finish later on. The best part of the toy though is just seeing him build the confidence that he can indeed put together something and use “tools”.

    Entertaining and Informative!
My husband likes this for the bathroom. I like it for the waiting room at the doctor’s office, standing in line at the DMV, etc. There was so much stuff I didn’t know! I bought it because I really wanted some fodder for conversations at events and fundraisers. I think it will come in very handy!

    Good Bathroom Read
Pretty typical Mental Floss book. Nothing like extremly cocktail about the book, but it the book is still entertaining none the less.

Great choice of topics, and fascinating information!
Somehow they really hit the nail on the head with this one—there are limited topics covered, but they seem to be exactly the topics you think you SHOULD know about but really don’t—the Hundred Years War, Samuel Johnson, Virginia Wolff and other like that! The coverage of the topics is light but not just fluff–you really do learn some history, but also learn tasty little facts that really would be fun to use at a party. I read straight through the book and enjoyed it all.

Show Off Your Inner Geek at Boring Cocktail Parties
For some reason, this slim volume reminds me of the old TV commercial for Silly String which featured a room of yawning guests as a naval officer showed off his ribbons and said, “This is from the Boer War.” It’s always a good idea to have something up your sleeve to break the ice with strangers that doesn’t have to do with the latest edition of People Magazine. After all, you want to have some semblance of an intellect on display to make that right impression.

This is yet another quick-read book from the editors of Mental Floss Magazine, a bimonthly launched in 2001 and targeted to aspiring Trivial Pursuit masters. This particular one, “Cocktail Party Cheat Sheets”, is a clever series of possible conversation-starters that will hopefully make one’s deep well of knowledge seem impressive without being intrusive. There are 44 topics, a chapter a piece, somewhat random in variety except a certain level of erudition. Each has a brief summary of what it is, an appropriate context in which to bring the topic up, some intriguing trivia facts to boost your interest, and actual suggestions for starting the conversation.

Topics are all over the map though there seems to be a predominance of historical figures covered from Attila the Hun to Miles Davis to Samuel Johnson to the Bront

Bring over the popcorn, wine, and whiskey we’ve got girls night winner.
Loved this movie, watched it twice the 1’st day. The cast is great and although I wouldn’t call it deep and moving it is sharp and has some substance. It manages an unmistakable Austin feel and is engaging.

It was fun to have an ensemble relationship movie, a flavor for all of us. My favorite character was Grigg, probably because I so rarely see this character in movies; he played the part of one of those great guys that we meet, know we should marry, but don’t because there isn’t any chemistry; well, his character is that guy with the chemistry; kudos to actor Hugh Dancy for being able to pull off this role.

All of the cast gave wonderful performances that pulled me in. The chemistry and strong performances brought the characters to life which is something I feel from books but rarely experience with a movie. Well done!

    Great!
First of all, you don’t have to like Jane Austen to enjoy this film; contrary to popular belief. The film (and book) explore several real-life events and mishaps just as Austen’s books do, but in a very modern way. I really enjoy how all of the characters are interweaved with Austen’s characters. It adds that connection for the Austen fans, but for the non-fans each character is still very unique and quirky. I definitely recommend this to everybody! Jane Austen fan or not!

WARNING: IF YO LOVE JANE AUSTEN, DO NOT SEE THIS FILM!
Treacle on fruitcake. Does that sound like Jane Austen to you, Austen-lovers? If so, feel free to partake. Me, I wanna go throw up. Jane would be turning over in her grave.

    complete with requisite happy ending
Jane Austen fans will delight in this splendidly nuanced chick-flick. Like her novels, the film takes us into the lives of several women, through their struggles and triumphs, into a happy ending for all. Well-casted without any “stars”, and written with quick, witty dialogue, the production also showcases the supportive nature of women’s friendships. The concept, to reflect the characters and plots of the Austen books in the lives of contemporary women, was at times a bit strained, but overall this movie is highly enjoyable, a frothy concoction for the literary set.

    Clever concept; good cast
Initially friends of Jocelyn, (Maria Bello) form a book club to help her get over the death of one of her favorite dogs. She is single and apparently finds emotional satifaction with dogs instead of men. Somehow casting the very beautiful Maria Bello in this role seems unrealistic but she does do a lot for the film.

Each of the members of the club has a major life upset so the group becomes therapy for them. One is dumped by her husband, another feels unloved by her husband, another is looking for yet another husband (she’s had 6) and the Lesbian daughter has her own set of problems. Then, trying to fill out the group so that the number of members equals the number of Austen novels, Jocelyn invites a young guy, Grigg, (Hugh Dancy) who has tried to pick her up at a hotel.

It sounds hokey but it is actually not so bad. The cast is very good and somehow, although contrived, the writing is good enough to keep your attention. It’s a pleasant way to waste an evening and it won’t keep you awake with its deep message. I wonder if Jane would like it? Somehow I think not-so-much.

The Best Way to Hang Your Skis Up
This is by far the best way to hang up a pair of skis and poles. Sturdy construction. Works well will all size and shape of ski. Better than similar wooden racks. Prices is perfect. Easy installation. Perfect for use in lockers and mud rooms.

    handy ski rack
this is the perfect, simple and efficient way to store a pair of skis and poles. I used 3 of them in my locker at the lodge. Easy to install.

    Works Great
Does what it’s supposed to. Sturdy metal frame, easy to mount. Easy to arrange multiple units on studs to use that hidden space in your garage or closet.

    ski rack
the racor racks are a good value. they are not fancy, but we used them in ‘mud room’ for ski’s and other snow gear. the singles seem to work better than doubles, as ski weight is concentrated on rack center. it does take some fiddling with ski straps to get the ski’s to hang at the correct height and correct distance from ski tips.
